When we are bored or tired, or we are really sleepy, we just can't avoid ourself from yawning, can we? I even yawn when I am in the middle of playing a match in a court.. unavoidable.. ^^
It is also said that we yawn because our brain doesn't have enough oxygen. Thus, the brain sends a signal to our body to "import" more oxygen from outside to refresh our brain by the action of yawning. Then, should we open our mouth as wide as we can to let the oxygen comes in as much as possible? Well, that's not what our Prophet had taught us. Here are some hadiths to share about yawning :
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Abu Hurairah r.a reported: The Prophet said:
“Allah likes sneezing and dislikes yawning. When any one of you sneezes and says Alhamdulillah (praise be to Allah), it becomes obligatory upon every Muslim who hears him to respond with “Yarhamukallah (to a man) / Yarhamukillah (to a woman)” (may Allah have mercy on you).
Yawning is from devil. When one of you feels like yawning, he should restrain it as much as possible, for the devil laughs at you when one of you yawns.”
[ Al-Bukhari]
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Abu Sa’ad Al-Khudri r.a reported: The Messenger of Allah said,
“When one yawns, he should put his hand over his mouth, otherwise the devil will enter.”
[Muslim]
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
The son of Abu Said al-Khudri reported on the authority of his father that Allah's Messenger s.a.w said,
"When one of you yawns while engaged in prayer, he should try to restrain so far as it lies in his power, since it is the Shaitaan that enter therein."
[Muslim]
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
I remember one of my friends when talking about yawning. After she yawns, she will say "Astaghfirullahal'azhim" instead of "Allahuakbar" as what we used to say while or after yawning. I wondered once, but when I think about it trying to find the answer by myself, I think it might be because she felt guilty by making Shaitaan happy and laughing at her when she yawns. Thus, she asks for Allah's forgiveness for that. Logic...right? Maybe we should practice that as well...
SNEEZING
Closing our mouth with a piece of cloth or tissue, or at least with our hands ; and turn our head to the left are some good manners to practice when we are sneezing.
Also...
Narrated Abu Huraira r.a:
I heard Allah's Apostle saying, "The rights of a Muslim on the Muslims are to follow the funeral processions, to accept invitation and to reply the sneezer (when he says "Alhamdulillah" after sneezing) . "
[Al-Bukhari]
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Two men sneezed before the Prophet. The Prophet said to one of them, "May Allah bestow His Mercy on you," but he did not say that to the other. On being asked (why), the Prophet said, "That one praised Allah (at the time of sneezing), while the other did not praise Allah."
[ Al-Bukhari]
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
My brother once puzzled me with this question, very long time ago:
"Why do you think, when someone is sneezing, he will automatically close his eyes?"
I could not manage to answer it at first, but later he told me this fact:
"If he didn't do that, his eyes will come out from his head because of great impact of sneezing."
Err, is this true... ? Well, you can try. Don't close your eyes when you are sneezing. Then, you see, did your eyes really come out?
Huhu~

about that sneezing part...
yeah, the force is too great that, reflectively, our eyes will automatically close when we sneeze.
you could never sneeze with open eyes even when you try.... that's what i heard, anyway...
again, this is all on my readings on the net... might not be true ^^
